XFS Technical Details
XFS is a filesharing addon built around the existing Dams2K4 Mp3 Player. The current MP3 Player will only allow you add MP3's to your FLIST to share with other people, XFS allows you to add other file-types such as movies to the list.
Features so far (Ongoing Project)
- Ability to scan for MPG or AVI files
- Scan for ANY type was halted in case of hidden files being picked up on scan.
File type Selection
The XFS options are located on the More MP3 Settings dialog menu, this can be accessed via the MP3 player or Main Menu via MP3 Settings - More MP3 Settings.
The More MP3 Settings menu has been extended to give you the option of scanning for music and other files to share (currently including AVI, MPG, WMA and MP3 files). The system still uses the Add Dir function of the MP3 Player to add files to your share list, but allows you to select other file-types to include as well.
As you can see, so far, four options are available to you,
- Load WMA file Types
- Load AVI File Types
- Load MPG File Types
- Load ANY File type
The Process for scanning is simple.
- DO NOT TICK ANY OF THE THREE OPTIONS.
- Go to the MP3 Player and click Add Dir, this will load all mp3 file types to your mp3 player.
If you want to add WMA file types,
- Go to the More MP3 Settings dialog, and tick the WMA file type option,
- Go back to the MP3 player and Add Dir, this will load all WMA file types from the selected directory.
If you want to share your AVI file types
- Go to the More MP3 Settings dialog, and tick the AVI file type option,
- Go to the MP3 Player and click Add Dir, this will load all AVI file types to your mIRC memory (using Hash Tables) but not to your MP3 Player.
And if you want to share your MPG file types.
- Go to the More MP3 Settings dialog, and tick the MPG file type option,
- Go to the Mp3 Player and click Add Dir, this will load all MPG file types to your mIRC memory (again using Hash Tables) but not to your MP3 Player.
If you have not worked out the ANY file type, you need serious help
- Just be careful of what you ADD to the FLIST.
Now....Remember, to scan for normal MP3 file types you must ensure all three options are un-ticked in the More Settings dialog.
Finally, go to the MP3 player and click Make FLIST
- This will create a detailed list of what is stored inside the mIRC memory (Hash Table) and save it to your designated @trigger name $+ FLIST.txt
XFS EchoSpam Control
Any questions feel free to ask in #Dams2K4 or #XFS on the FusionChat network
Click on the XFS EchoSpam Control and fill in the required information
- Channels to serve in
- This is where you list the channels you want to spam your XFS in and allow people to grab files, when adding a channel do not forget to add the #.
- As with any file server, you should follow the rules of the channels and networks you use it on. Some specify longer advertising times and many chat rooms and networks ban their use altogether. If in doubt, check.
- Spam Timer
- This is where you set the interval between spams or adverts for your XFS. It is set at a default of 300 seconds (or once every 5 minutes) which is the recommended minimum. You can however, set this as high as you like.
- Colours (Theme)
- See Below
- Comments
- This is where you add a message to the end of your advert, some use this field to add a channel or client advertisement or a message announcing a new file such as "now serving everything ever made by Kermit the Frog". The colours for this advert are set with the Colours (Theme) setting.
Colours (Theme)
The Colours (Theme) settings allows you to customise the appearance of your EchoSpam, there are 4 colours to select. Below is a copy of MY echo spam.
As you can see there are 4 Colours to choose,
- 1. Is the Colour for the BRACKETS surrounding the TEXT.
- 2. Is the main TEXT colour IE: To Get My List
- 3. Is the colour for the STATS IE: 10490
- 4. Is the colour for your COMMENTS and the XFS Logo.
PLEASE remember to ENSURE you enter 2 numbers when selecting colours IE: 04 not 4
- Also a good idea, when selecting 01 (BLACK) select 99 instead, so people with BLACK backgrounds can view the colour.
- Then add your comments to be viewed from the ECHO.
The colours used in the echo are the basic mIRC/Dams2k4 colours as used for all other echoes.
- With no customisation, the echo will appear as below -
- The top example in the following image shows the output with the colours 02, 03, 04 and 07 selected
- The lower example shows the colours, has a customised comment and has an XFS @ trigger set. This allows other users to enter a unique command such as @stealmyfiles to access your file server, this trigger is customisable via the Set XFS @ Trigger option in More MP3 Settings.
