A Nickcatcher alerts you when someone says a set word or phrase - also called 'a dinger' or 'getting dings' from the noise mIRC clients make when this is activated. Dams2k4 has a quite powerful Nickcatcher included by default.

How to Configure your Nickcatcher

First open it via the Main Menu, Control Panel, Right-Click menu or with the Ctrl-F12 key combination.

Enter Nick/Words to Catch

Space for 12 different Nicks/Words or Phrases for you to be alerted on.

Case Sens

If selected, this will make that particular item Case Sensitive. E.g. If you enter 'john' and mark it case sensitive, the Nickcatcher will NOT alert you on 'John' 'jOhn' etc. This is a user preference added for those with common nicks, you may find that using this setting reduces your 'dingability'. E.g Although most IRC users use Tabbed Nick-completion, sometimes they don't. Therefore if you add 'Mainnick' as case sensitive and someone types 'hey mainnick' you won't be alerted.

Nickcatcher ON/OFF

Turns the Nickcatcher ON or OFF

Catch in active

This controls whether the Nickcatcher still alerts you if someone triggers the nickcatcher in the channel or window you're currently active in.

Beeper

Controls whether the audio alert is turned ON or OFF (the dinger)

Exact Catch

If selected, the Nickcatcher will only alert you on EXACT matches. E.g. If you enter 'john' and turn on Exact Catch you will not be alerted on 'johnny' or 'longjohns'. This is a user preference added for those with common nicks, you may find that like Case Sens this reduces your 'dingability'.

Ignore Types

Allows you to customise the alerts you wish to recieve.

Bold in text
Bold in text is usually used by MP3 Echoes, Bots, Ascii Art or other things which may be considered annoyances. This setting allows you to control whether you are alerted if there is ANY part of the alerted sentence in Bold.
Colour in text

Underlined text

Ignored Channels

Clicking this button will display a list of channels in which you are not accepting alerts. Channels can be added to this list via the Right Click Menu - Nickcatcher Channel Ignore - Add #channel to Ignore list.

Ignored Nicks

Clicking this button will display a list of Nicks/Users that will not alert you. Usually Bot's of the 'Hi <user>' type but also useful for trivia bots and annoying people. Nicks can be added to this list via the Right Click Menu - Nickcatcher Nick Ignore - Add <nick> to Ignore list.
