Dams2k4 is an mIRC script created by Mick/Damsulegna (hence dams) in 2004 (2k4.. snazzy eh?). It began as DamsMirc and grew from there.

Overview

Dams2k4 has been designed for both beginners and advanced users. It was grown from a channel orientated client into the powerful script available today. It includes a custom built MP3 Player and many other features. The script offers many features to make communicating with your friends easier and more comfortable, however it focuses on useful things instead of providing "war tools", "nukers" or similar content to annoy other users on IRC.

Version

The current VERSION is Aug08.v2.
If you have a version lower than May06 you need to either download the MEGA update that makes your current version compatable with version May06 or redownload the entire platform and start over. See below in Downloads.
If you have Version May06 just update via the command /updatenow

Downloads

The Download file is an EXE or MSI installer which automatically installs Dams2K4 to your Program Files, with a shortcut added to your Desktop.

  • Choose only one type of download from below.

Full Installation

These two links above are installers for the MAIN platform (Version Jun08.v5), these are NOT updates for existing clients / versions. Using these files to overwrite an existing installation of Dams2k4 will erase your current settings.

  • Ensure any previous version of Dams2K4/DamsMirc is closed or uninstalled.
  • Click the link. Click save & save it to "My Documents", then when download is complete click OPEN and follow the instructions in the installer program.
  • Remember to keep The MSI/EXE file in case you need to remove or repair Dams2K4 in the future
  • When Dams2K4 opens, if any firewall (including the Windows XP firewall) asks if you want to UNBLOCK mIRC(Dams).exe just click the UNBLOCK button. This allows the program to access the internet.
  • Upon Opening Dams2K4 utilise the auto updater until it says, in the @Info window "Update Checker Has Finished! There Are No New Updates To Be Found. You Are Updated!"
  • This can be done by typing, in any window using the /updatenow command (Keep Dams2K4 Open For This).

Updating from a version older than May06

How do I use these files?

Update your mIRC.exe

Dams2K4 is built on mirc.exe (Named mirc(Dams).exe) version 6.21 which is always being updated by the makers of mIRC.

  • Download the current version being used by Dams2K4 Click here to download mirc(Dams).exe
  • You need to CLOSE DOWN Dams2K4 completely. Move this newer mirc to the MAIN Dams2K4 DIR. Normally (C:\Program Files\Dams2K4\Dams2K4)
  • Then simply restart dams2K4 the normal way.

History

November 1999:

The creation of Dams2k4 ultimately began in 1999 when the MusicCity network changed from Java based chat to IRC and was moved to P2PChat. After searching the net for a simple mIRC script to use, with little success, Damsulegna decided to open up the one he was using and recode it to suit his needs. An itinerant fiddler, coding soon took a grip of Mick and he was daily changing things around and even taking in requests from others for features and additions to code into this script.

Febuary 2000:

All the scripts and snippets that had been added to the existing client were taken out and placed into a clean mIRC install, removing the reliance on others code and providing a clean base to work on. The scripting skills used had by this time improved and scripting became a daily challenge.

April 2000:

DamsMirc was born, intended only as an simplistic alternative to Java or Kazaa. It was never originally intended to be used as a Main Script, but only as a stop gap until newer users were more adept at using mIRC itself and perhaps customising their own mIRC to do whatever it was they wanted it to do.

January 2004:

After many requests and constant updating, DamsMirc was changed into the newer brand Dams2K4 This launch was intended to put Dams2K4 on the forefront of leading mIRC clients. Included in this release was an automated updating script, which allowed the script to be updated upon opening.

Since then Mick has been releasing at least one update a week (usually more) to fix bugs, add new features as requested and increase the functionality of the script whilst still attempting to keep it as user friendly as possible.
